As their partnership with the World of Work initiative continues to flourish, Cajon Valley Union School District (CVUSD) held their World of Work Week (#CVWOWWeek) November 13th through the 16th. During this week, seven San Diego companies connected with the Cajon Valley students through virtual Meet a Pro chats which broadcasted live to many Cajon Valley classrooms and gave students a behind the scenes look at fascinating career options. Day two of #CVWOWWeek brought students to two local businesses, Eddy Pump Corporation and Fisherman’s Processing. The World of Work curriculum that is integrated into CVUSD classrooms but gives students the chance to learn what careers suit them best and even see behind the scenes of what their future could look like.

While at Eddy Pump, students were given hope for their future as they learned that this successful and innovative industrial pump company started off one single idea. Eddy Pump Corporation is a dredge equipment and pump manufacturer and an engineering company committed to providing the best pump technology. Their innovative technology serves various industries such as oil and gas, mining, wastewater, paper/pulp, dredging, fracking, chemical and even the US Navy. Eddy Pump engineers taught Cajon Valley students how problem solving can always overcome trials, and that failing is apart of growing a company. At Eddy Pump, each person plays an important role, with communication and engineering being the backbone of the company. Young engineers of Cajon Valley were truly inspired by this virtual visit to Eddy Pump!

The next virtual Meet a Pro stop took students to a very different business, Fishmerman’s Processing, where fish go from the ocean docks of San Diego to businesses that sell fresh fish. Sean Sebring, Managing Partner at the company, gave students a quick look at where a small job can take them as he told the story of working at the San Diego docks as a teenager and how that job grew into owning his own company. He loves his career and being able to see his employees succeed and provide quality products. The customer service and entrepreneurial spirit of Fisherman’s Processing gave students at CVUSD a positive model of how a dream can grow into a fantastic career.
