Kuester Management Group Shares Tips to Improve Safety During the Holidays

Kuester Management Group outlines strategies homeowners and HOAs can use to boost safety this holiday season and throughout the year.

Safety is top of mind for many homeowners and families, especially during the holidays. With shorter daylight hours, more packages being delivered, and winter weather setting in, risk can increase. Kuester Management Group has released a statement to the press offering ways HOA communities can be proactive about safety in many areas.

“One of the easiest ways that homeowners can improve safety is by being alert,” says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. “Keep your head up and look around when walking outside, even if just from your car to the house. Avoid the distraction of staring at your phone. If you notice anything suspicious, say something – call the police – and get yourself to safety.”

HOAs can take steps to enhance safety by increasing lighting throughout the neighborhood and encouraging homeowners to do the same. Motion-sensor lights can be a great deterrent because they turn on when motion is detected, be it a person or an animal. This can catch potential troublemakers off guard because they prefer to stay in the shadows where they can’t be seen as easily. Installing security cameras can be another good option to keep an eye on the premises.

“The HOA should also work with local law enforcement to stay up-to-date about any reported issues and pass this information on to homeowners,” says Kuester. “They may also ask for patrols to be increased during certain times, or for help with setting up a neighborhood watch within the community. Homeowners can be a huge asset by looking out for one another and working together with police.”

Kuester also recommends sending out reminders about simple safety tips such as always keeping doors locked, not leaving valuables in the car, and bringing in packages as soon as possible after delivery. If a homeowner knows they won’t be home for a while, they may want to ask a neighbor to get their mail or hold a package for them until they return.

Safety around the holidays also means keeping walkways clear from extension cords or holiday decorations that may be trip-and-fall hazards. This is another reason to keep areas well-lit too. Kuester also reminds homeowners to only hang lights on their home or bushes that are approved for outdoor use to reduce risk of fires or other issues. Some holiday lights are designed for indoor use only, so read the tags.

In addition, with winter weather moving in, it’s a good idea to keep a shovel and salt on hand to clear away snow or ice. While the HOA tends to common areas, homeowners are responsible for driveways and sidewalks on their property.

Kuester Management Group works with HOAs to enhance safety, improve communication, and promote a more enjoyable living environment for all, whether during the holidays or throughout the year. For more information, contact Kuester today at www.kuester.com.
